One of the important phases of shooting a good photo is focusing on the photo's objects. Photos that are out of focus look bad and blurry. Sometimes shooting out of focus objects is done on purpose as an artistic effect but in most cases a sharp focused object is the photographer goal.
Most low-end pocket digital cameras do all the focus work for you. These are literally "point and shoot" cameras. Furthermore even if you wanted to manually focus using such cameras it would have been practically impossible since they do not include a real optical viewfinder. Using the LCD to check for focus is useless as the LCD is not good enough to truly let you know if an object is perfectly focused or not.
Digital SLR cameras on the other hand have an optical viewfinder that allows you to truly see the photo through the camera's lens. With digital SLR cameras you can see how well the objects in the photo are focused and correct the focus as needed.
Digital cameras support at least three focus modes:
Manual focus: In this mode the camera does not automatically focus on the objects in the photo. You will have to manually set the focus as desired. This is accomplished by either pushing some buttons that in turn change the focus or more commonly by rotating a focus ring on the lens clockwise or counterclockwise as needed. You can see the results of changing the focus by looking through the viewfinder. When you are happy with the focus you can press the shutter button to take the photo.
Single auto focus: In this mode the camera automatically focuses on the objects in the photo. The camera automatically focuses when you press the shutter button either all the way down to shoot a photo or half way down to lock the focus. In this mode the automatic focus process is carried out only once as soon as the shutter button is pressed. In this mode the camera continuously corrects the focus as the objects distance from the camera changes. This mode is useful when you shoot photos of moving objects such as a race car during a race or airplanes during an air show. You can hold the shutter button half way down and continuously move the camera to follow the object. The camera will continuously keep the object in focus. When you are ready to shoot the photo simply press the shutter button all the way down. One drawback of this mode is high power consumption as the camera continuously corrects the focus it uses the power hungry motors in the lens in order to move the optical components.
Like any other feature automatic and manual focus modes have their pros and cons. The first step to using them to your advantage is to understand how they work and what they were designed for. The next step is to experiment shoot photos using different focus modes and different types of objects and see how the camera behaves. Some critics see the success of Jackass: The Movie as the last nail in the coffin of civilization, and they're probably right. This compilation of pain-inflicting stunts and embarrassing pranks has no artistic merit whatsoever--which doesn't keep it from being freakishly entertaining. Among other things, Johnny Knoxville and his posse get beaten up by a female kick-boxing champion; shoot bottle rockets out of their rectums; run amok in Japan wearing giant panda bear costumes; swim with whale sharks while holding pounds of brine shrimp in their swimsuits; and get done up in realistic old-age makeup so that they can race each other in motorized wheelchairs, among other goofs. It's a weird mixture of machismo and masochism, adolescent recklessness and frat boy homoeroticism, and someday someone will write a doctoral thesis about how Jackass relates to our safety-obsessed society. Sigh, it's finally happened: the generation gap thing. I NEVER trash something that's primarily aimed at younger people and doesn't resonate all that much with me; I can usually find something to like about it. But "Jackass: The Unrated Edition"? Okay, I'll start with something positive. SOME of this movie is amusing and entertaining: the rental car that's returned after Johhny Knoxville enters it into a stock car race and trashes it thoroughly; the "old man" (one of the "Jackass" guys in make-up) who is caught shoplifting in a convenience store and keeps on shoplifting even after he's caught and repeatedly yelled at, and one or two other things. But too much of this movie is just gross and/or stupid. Maybe that's the point, I don't know. But wincing at numerous scenes of self-mutilation and self-induced vomiting wasn't fun or entertaining but, well... wince-inducing. But too each his or her own. This unrated edition contains a longer cut of the original theatrical release of the movie, as well as more extra scenes among the special features. Knock yourself out if this is for you-- it's certainly a generous DVD. But I think I'll go watch something else now.

I freely admit I, a college graduate who loves to read and watch foreign movies, thoroughly enjoyed Jackass. Sure, I was dead drunk when I watched it but, still, I died laughing. This movie is Idiocracy, here and now. Watch the Mike Judge movie, Idiocracy, to see what I mean. What is the difference between the television show "Ow, My Balls" featured in Idiocracy and Jackass? None. Also notice the raptness with which "Ow, My Balls" is watched by the movie's character and consider the popularity of the Jackass series. Hmmm.
A bunch of crazy-as-foxes goofs humiliate and torture themselves for your viewing pleasure. A lot of reviews opine that these guys are a bunch of morons. Nonsense. They are wildly creative, impossible to embarrass and daring. We pay good money to sit on our couches in the comfort of our homes and point and laugh. Who are the real morons? Like, duh. Johnny Knoxville is a multi-millionaire actor/writer/producer. What have you or I accomplished recently?
Johnny Knoxville and co. are taking advantage of the fact that suffering sells as long as it's cloaked as wacky stunts & comedy. People like to watch other people be hurt and humiliated. They just do. Who knows why. Maybe because pain and humiliation are inevitable in life and misery loves company. Whatever. All Knoxville and his buddies have done is take an Adam Sandler or Jim Carrey comedy and taken out all the plot and characters and sets and any anything else that might be the slightest bit distracting and served up an entire highlight reel of jokes and stunts. In doing so, they and their audience make an invaluable contribution to the dumbing-down of America. Congratulations all around.

-They last a long time.
-Does not need special charger. You can use your existing NiMh charger.
Cons:
-Just like what NLee mentioned (above). You can confuse them with regular Duracells and mistakenly thrown away after losing charge.
-This later technology is still expensive. I got them on sale from Safeway for 11$ Normally sold at 14.99$. Target also sells them for $11.
I also like Eneloops by Sanyo. But they are not easily available at your local stores.

Judging from similarity of technical specifications and physical shapes of (+) and (-) terminals, I am convinced that the Duracell Pre Charged AA is actually SANYO eneloop AA underneath a different wrapper. Therefore all the good things you heard about eneloop apply to Duracell 'Pre Charged', too.
My own testing has shown that the capacity of eneloop AA cell is slightly above the claimed 2000mAh, and it is able to retain at least 85% of its charge after 5 months in storage. The Rayovac Hybrid AA starts with slightly higher capacity at 2100mAh, but it 'only' retains 80% capacity after 5 months. For all practical applications, both are equally good. Just pick whichever brand (Sanyo, Rayovac, or Duracell) is on-sale, and you can't go wrong.
One small problem with the Duracell 'Pre Charged' cell is that: it looked too similar to the well-known 'Copper Top' alkaline cell. So there is a good chance that people may mistaken it for a disposable cell. Personally, I prefer the distinctive-looking white case of the eneloop cell.

The Red16 EDL template works with Avid’s EDL Manager application and was provided by Avid to assist with tapeless workflows, in particular Red Digital Cinema workflows. This template allows tape names of up to 16 characters in length. This works hand in hand with MetaCheater’s Red Options to track the entire file name of a R3D file as a tape name. White balance indicates under what kind of lighting situation you are taking your digital shot. Because the type of lighting you have when taking pictures will have a bearing on the quality of your pictures, you can choose your camera?s white balance setting to get good results.
Many digital cameras function on the default white balance setting, which is auto mode, meaning the camera will automatically adjust to the type of lighting available for the photograph to be shot. The auto white balance setting doesn?t work equally well in all digital cameras. It can be tricked by several false cues, and so make a mistake while trying to determine type of lighting condition present. You get pictures you won?t be proud of.
Learning to change the white balance settings will give you greater control over the quality of the pictures you take. The basic settings in most digital cameras function well enough. The white balance settings outlined below are the most commonly ones.
Auto
This is the automatic setting discussed earlier. When in auto white balance, your camera will do the adjusting by itself depending on the kind of lighting it assumes you have on hand.
Cloudy
This white balance setting is used outdoors under cloudy or overcast conditions.
Daylight

This is my first cadence sensor so I do not have anything to compare it to. This cadence sensor combinded with my 305 has completely made my flightdeck obsolute. I was especially impressed by the auto-calibration for the speed sensor feature. No more need to measure your wheel size. Now, if Garmin can just figure out a cheap and acurate power meter there would be no need for more than one computer on your bike.

The floating strap for the camera is super lightweight and small, it works great. It has a tiny loop on the top of the orange part that I'm assuming would be good to hook keychains or to hang on a hook or something. I'm not really sure, I haven't found a use for it but you can just fit a finger through it. Otherwise, a great produc - you'll definitely need something like this if you're using an underwater camera in the ocean. I have an Olympus Stylus 1030SW camera and it goes up to 33ft underwater but if it were to sink lower than that it would basically die, so getting the floating camera strap was a necessity. I think it comes in other colors but the orange is what I have and it's great!

I like the idea of the silicone cover so that I can put my camera in my bag without it getting scratched and I do not have to use another case for the camera. The only thing I have to say is a pain with this cover is that when you want to change the battery or plug it into the computer you have to remove the silicone skin. Overall it is not bad, after all other cameras do not even have this option.

Pros: Good sound quality. Many channel selections so you don't have to share the net with others. I've used them all day long without any battery problems. I can wear the included headset inside my ATV helmet if I cover my ear with my hand as I jam the helmet on. This makes communication with my buddies during an ATV ride much more convenient. I'll eventually buy the headset made specifically for installation in a helmet.
Cons: The charger doesn't automatically turn off when the batteries are fully charged. The VOX feature was frustrating to use. I tried it at several sensitivity levels while riding ATVs. It would either transmit while I wasn't speaking or not transmit at the beginning of whatever I wanted to say. Perhaps the VOX works fine without the noisy ATVs - I don't know.
Overall, a worthwhile purchase.

We got these to use around the farm so when one of us is down with the animals, we can still communicate with the other person in the house. For this, they work great. They have more features than we need so, if we were to buy 2-ways again, we'd probably go with a cheaper model. The reason we sprung for this more expensive set is that we figured if we were going to have 2-ways, we could also carry them with us when walking our dogs on the back of the property in case one runs off or somebody gets hurt, we could call to the person back home. But even just a quarter-mile from our house (let alone the 26 miles it's billed as working over), we can't communicate with each other. There's a hill between us, but again, it's just a quarter-mile of distance. I would've thought these could handle at least that, but no.

Not all photography enthusiasts are aware of the digital camera?s setting called "white balance." This article will discuss what this feature of the camera is all about, and how you can use it to help make your pictures look better.
White balance indicates under what kind of lighting situation you are taking your digital shot. Because the type of lighting you have when taking pictures will have a bearing on the quality of your pictures, you can choose your camera?s white balance setting to get good results.
Many digital cameras function on the default white balance setting, which is auto mode, meaning the camera will automatically adjust to the type of lighting available for the photograph to be shot. The auto white balance setting doesn?t work equally well in all digital cameras. It can be tricked by several false cues, and so make a mistake while trying to determine type of lighting condition present. You get pictures you won?t be proud of.
Learning to change the white balance settings will give you greater control over the quality of the pictures you take. The basic settings in most digital cameras function well enough. The white balance settings outlined below are the most commonly ones.
Auto
This is the automatic setting discussed earlier. When in auto white balance, your camera will do the adjusting by itself depending on the kind of lighting it assumes you have on hand.
Cloudy
This white balance setting is used outdoors under cloudy or overcast conditions.

The Camera Obscura: What Does It Relate To?
The term camera obscura arises from time to time in the photoraphy arena. I remember the time I first heard the term but knew not what it was. By the second or third time someone mentioned it in passing, I just had to look it up and I'm glad I did. It won't help you take better pictures and you won't earn more money but will gain some knowledge that starts the knowledge drive and understanding of the principles of photography that much further.
If you don't know anything about the camera obscura, you will after this. Did you ever ask yourself why are photographic devices called cameras? They were called cameras because their direct ancestor is the camera obscura, an optical device functioning on the basis of a simple law of physics. Camera Obscura is the Latin for dark room. It is important to understand it is not an invented mechanical device; it works on a naturally occurring phenomenon. It is like a fire or rainbow.
To fully understand the concept, you can try this out: on a bright day, get into a very dark room (you can obtain the darkness by covering the window with an opaque, but thin material). Make a pinhole in the item that covers the window. If the hole is small enough, on the opposite wall you will see the world outside the window, in full color and motion and turned upside down. Your room is now a camera obscura.
Let's see what is the principle of the camera obscura .When the rays reflected from the bright objects outside (this is why you need to make the experiment on a bright day) pass through the pinhole they do not scatter. Instead, they cross and reform as an upside down image on the opposite wall, or on any flat surface held parallel to the hole.
The principles of the camera obscura have been known since antiquity. Its earliest mention was by the Chinese philosopher Mo-Ti in the 5th century BC. His experiment was similar to the one described above. He called the darkened room the "locked treasure room". Aristotle (3rd century BC) also understood the principle of the camera obscura. It has been claimed that the Islamic scientist Abu Ali Al-Hasan Ibn al-Haitham (also known as Al-Hazen) is the one who actually discovered it while carrying out some experiments in optics, in the early 11th century, Egypt.
In the 15th century Leonardo da Vinci described camera obscura in Codex Atlanticus. It appears that he was the first who discovered its potential as a drawing aid. In the 17th and 18th century artists such as Johannes Vermeer, Canaletto, Guardi and Paul Sandby were known for their incredible attention to detail. Therefore, it has been speculated that they made use of the camera obscura. If you've seen Girl with a Pearl Earring (a movie about how Vermeer created his masterpiece that gave the name of the film), you must remember that "magic box" that Griet finds in the artist's atelier and her surprise when he shows her the way it works.
The camera obscura used by artists was not the rudimentary one described in the beginning of the article. The image quality was improved by adding a convex lens into the aperture and a set of mirrors solved the problem of the upside down image.
Let's now understand how din this simple optical device turn into the photographic camera. The camera obscura managed to get an accurate image of the world outside; the only problem remained recording this image. Therefore, adding a sheet of light sensitive material to the little modified camera obscura was enough. This is the way photography was invented in the early 19th century.
Another use of the camera obscura was for entertainment; some camera obscura rooms have been built at the seaside or in areas of scenic beauty as tourist attractions. Some of them still survive. They are large chambers situated in high buildings. A live panorama of the outside is projected inside the room through a rotating lens. Some of you might ask yourselves what is the point of going into a dark room to look at the reflection of something you can see outside. The interesting thing in this kind of experience is not the view itself, but the feeling you get when you are just a spectator of the world that surrounds you.
Personally, I am absolutely fascinated by the camera obscura. There are many interesting things about it that I did not mention in this article. For instance, with its aid, you can experiment that light travels in time, with speed, and even calculate the speed of light. This was Al-Hazen's discovery. this book helps alot when it comes to the effects of exposure in photography. I'm still lost though. I can't seem to get my camera off the automatic setting yet. The book shows what happens at different settings it even gives examples of subtle changes. It clearly shows the results of changing the exposure settings and demonstrates alot of photos where the exposure is just OK but how to get the same photo to POP by adjusting exposure settings.

Its aimed for begginers so it can be a little boring for the ones that already know the basics. The pictures in the book look old and I didnt like that. This is my first GPS and has all the bells and whistles that was described. I am finding out more things about this every week. The only item that could be better is the self-sticking disc that is supposed to attach to to your dashboard for mounting the GPS there instead of the windshield. It did not stick. I would prefer mounting to dashboard instead of the windshield. It gets very hot from the sun.

The term camera obscura arises from time to time in the photoraphy arena. I remember the time I first heard the term but knew not what it was. By the second or third time someone mentioned it in passing, I just had to look it up and I'm glad I did. It won't help you take better pictures and you won't earn more money but will gain some knowledge that starts the knowledge drive and understanding of the principles of photography that much further.
If you don't know anything about the camera obscura, you will after this. Did you ever ask yourself why are photographic devices called cameras? They were called cameras because their direct ancestor is the camera obscura, an optical device functioning on the basis of a simple law of physics. Camera Obscura is the Latin for dark room. It is important to understand it is not an invented mechanical device; it works on a naturally occurring phenomenon. It is like a fire or rainbow.
To fully understand the concept, you can try this out: on a bright day, get into a very dark room (you can obtain the darkness by covering the window with an opaque, but thin material). Make a pinhole in the item that covers the window. If the hole is small enough, on the opposite wall you will see the world outside the window, in full color and motion and turned upside down. Your room is now a camera obscura.
Let's see what is the principle of the camera obscura .When the rays reflected from the bright objects outside (this is why you need to make the experiment on a bright day) pass through the pinhole they do not scatter. Instead, they cross and reform as an upside down image on the opposite wall, or on any flat surface held parallel to the hole.
The principles of the camera obscura have been known since antiquity. Its earliest mention was by the Chinese philosopher Mo-Ti in the 5th century BC. His experiment was similar to the one described above. He called the darkened room the "locked treasure room". Aristotle (3rd century BC) also understood the principle of the camera obscura. It has been claimed that the Islamic scientist Abu Ali Al-Hasan Ibn al-Haitham (also known as Al-Hazen) is the one who actually discovered it while carrying out some experiments in optics, in the early 11th century, Egypt.
In the 15th century Leonardo da Vinci described camera obscura in Codex Atlanticus. It appears that he was the first who discovered its potential as a drawing aid. In the 17th and 18th century artists such as Johannes Vermeer, Canaletto, Guardi and Paul Sandby were known for their incredible attention to detail. Therefore, it has been speculated that they made use of the camera obscura. If you've seen Girl with a Pearl Earring (a movie about how Vermeer created his masterpiece that gave the name of the film), you must remember that "magic box" that Griet finds in the artist's atelier and her surprise when he shows her the way it works.
The camera obscura used by artists was not the rudimentary one described in the beginning of the article. The image quality was improved by adding a convex lens into the aperture and a set of mirrors solved the problem of the upside down image.
Let's now understand how din this simple optical device turn into the photographic camera. The camera obscura managed to get an accurate image of the world outside; the only problem remained recording this image. Therefore, adding a sheet of light sensitive material to the little modified camera obscura was enough. This is the way photography was invented in the early 19th century.
Another use of the camera obscura was for entertainment; some camera obscura rooms have been built at the seaside or in areas of scenic beauty as tourist attractions. Some of them still survive. They are large chambers situated in high buildings. A live panorama of the outside is projected inside the room through a rotating lens. Some of you might ask yourselves what is the point of going into a dark room to look at the reflection of something you can see outside. The interesting thing in this kind of experience is not the view itself, but the feeling you get when you are just a spectator of the world that surrounds you.
Personally, I am absolutely fascinated by the camera obscura. There are many interesting things about it that I did not mention in this article. For instance, with its aid, you can experiment that light travels in time, with speed, and even calculate the speed of light. This was Al-Hazen's discovery. Another interesting thing is that the German astronomer Johannes Kepler used a camera obscura for his astronomical observations. And there is much more to find out about this magical device...

Customer Review: GREAT GPS
This is my first GPS and has all the bells and whistles that was described. I am finding out more things about this every week. The only item that could be better is the self-sticking disc that is supposed to attach to to your dashboard for mounting the GPS there instead of the windshield. It did not stick. I would prefer mounting to dashboard instead of the windshield. It gets very hot from the sun.
